CORRIVERTON, CORENTYNE – A Corentyne man suspected of being part of a three-man gang operating in the Upper Corentyne area was yesterday sentenced to two years in prison.Orin Sam, called ‘Yankee’, a 34-year-old of Princetown, Corriverton, appeared before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court to answer a charge of escape from lawful custody.He also had four other charges slapped on him – three counts of robbery under arms and a simple larceny – three to which he was not required to plead.Last September 17, the man escaped from custody at the Fort Wellington Police Station. He was subsequently nabbed in New Amsterdam last Monday. To the escape charge he pleaded guilty.On March 1, last, he, in the company of others, allegedly committed a robbery on victim Depak Ramsook at Race Course, Springlands.
